Hi all,
Should I be using ‘No Sound’ instead of Do Not Disturb on my Apple Watch? Or Theatre Mode?
I still want to be able to SEE my Watch face after 10 at night (instead of a black void), and I want to be able to see if there's a red dot, signifying notifications.
I just don’t want to hear any pings or sounds of any sort.
So... do I need to disable Do Not Disturb? Or can I have Do Not Disturb on, but for sounds only?
As I say, I still want to be able to see my Watch face.
Thanks for any advice,
malch

Yes I could choose the bell symbol from Control Centre (if that's what it's called), but I'd prefer to use Do Not Disturb, if I could tell it to not bother me with any sounds, but to not blacken the watch face. The advantage of doing it this way, if I could, would be that Do Not Disturb allows you to set a schedule. If I hit the bell symbol in Control Centre, that mutes all sounds, but I have to then unmute the next morning, and then mute again the next night, unmute the next morning, etc. etc.
And yes, I also consider the vibration noise a sound, in fact, quite an annoying sound.
The thing is, I like the pings and whatnot during the course of the day. They do what they're supposed to do—alert me to new notifications. Just don't want the noises between 10pm and 7am.

thank you, first. I'll just have to hope that Apple updates 'Do Not Disturb', giving us a little more control. I'd schedule it to mute just the sound (between 10pm and 7am, as an example), and leave everything else running so I can still see my Watch face. Cheers, malch

I'm confused because I have do not disturb set to turn on every night automatically. My screen never goes dark. I just see the half moon icon at the center top of the screen when dnd becomes active. iOS14 S6 watch.

I set up an automation that silences my watch at 8:30pm and another automation that restores sound at 5:45am. Doing something like that would still allow you to see the screen.

omg. Thank you to the last two posters. I don't know anything about automation, but I'll bet my son can help me. And/or I'll find out why my Do Not Disturb isn't working the way yours is, savage. Are your Watch and iPhone mirrored?
thanks, malch

Interesting. I've never heard of a case where Do Not Disturb prevents your watch face from illuminating when you raise your wrist – I thought that was the point of a separate Theater Mode.

From what you posted, it sounds like you have enabled the sleep app at a certain time which does blackout the screen but doesn't silence the watch. If your son lives with you, have him double check that for you. Swipe up from the bottom of the watch and you will see the control center. The sleep icon looks like a mini bed.

do not disturb should not black out the screen.
it just makes the watch not vibrate or ding.

make sure you're actually using DND, it's the moon icon

silent mode - bell icon - will stop the watch from making noise, but it will still vibrate for alerts.

there's also theatre mode (comedy/tragedy masks) blacks out the screen, and turns off noise, vibration still works. It also disables waking the screen when you raise your wrist, you must tap on the screen, or you can roll the display brightness up with the crown.

or as suggested above, you've turned on the sleep setting and it's automatically turning off your screen for you

Thank you all. I will see what I've done wrong—Do Not Disturb sounds perfect for me, as soon as I get it working properly!

just to close this out on a positive note. Not sure quite did the trick, but it might have been when I turned off Do Not Disturb on my Watch... it's already running on my iPhone, and the Watch and phone are mirrored or whatever, so I thought that might work. And maybe it did, or maybe it was something else, but my Watch face now stays on after 10pm, but there are no sounds. Perfect! Thanks again, malch

Sounds very much like you have a Sleep Schedule and it's going into bedtime mode and not Do Not Disturb mode. In the former the watch goes into darkened simple clock mode until the sleep schedule exits.

The sleep schedule is configured within the health app.
