Found two old ide hardrives and have the proper leads for it and it says it osx compatable but they dont come up like my other external harddrives/flashdrives please help

If the drives were in windows systems, then they will have to be re-formatted to Mac format before you can use them on the Mac.

Open the Disk Utility. If the drives are being recognized by the Mac then they will show up there and you can format them.

You have external power on the drives, right? The drives are not powered by the IDE ribbon cable alone.
 
yeah they are powered if i format them to os journeled will they be readable on a windows computer
