What if Apple announced a theme engine for iOS 8 that only is available for the 2014 hardware. They could have a section in the Appstore making themes available that can change the color scheme and icons. The themes would have to go though the same approval process as apps. Apple could justify needing "newer, more powerful hardware to run it smoothly."

What do you think? Seems like it would be an easily way to make $1.49 a pop on some easy to make themes.

Very possible. I can see that happening eventually.

I believe the 5.5 inch iPhone 6 will have this feature.

Apple has traditionally been so controlling over such things I don't see it happening any time soon... but again, you never know.
