Hi, don't you think using the silent feature as a lock button would be really awesome?

All you have to do is turn your phone on silent and the passcode lock will turn on.

Of course, you would be able to turn off the silent button being used as a lock button through settings if you don't like locking your phone.

Old iPods have a lock button so why doesn't the iPhone? It gets annoying having to go into Settings and turn it on.

It doesn't have a lock button because when inactive, the screen turns off, and hence cuts off 95% of all functionality of the device.

Wouldn't someone be able to turn off the passcode lock by turning the phone off silent?

While I voted against this, you aren't getting the concept. Turning it ON silent turns on the passcode lock. Turning it off silent, however, does not do the reverse.

Idea: using the sleep/wake button for lock?

Having 2 buttons to do the same thing would confuse ordinary users. Having a button that does the same thing when switched to either position would confuse people.

To the OP: you refer to the lock button the iPod's...you mean the 'hold' button? All that does is disables controls. What would that achieve on the iPhone? Just press the sleep button, the music keeps playing and you can't accidentally press buttons.

Wait, where's the lock button that's already there?

Just to clarify, turning the phone on silent would turn on the passcode lock required to use the phone.

Before complaining about "missing features" maybe you should read the manual...or look at an iPhone.
