Does the 15" MBP have the ideal resolution for day to day office work (email, docs etc..) and to play the occasional game or is it even too low for this?

My feeling is that the 17" MBP resolution is too high for office work and would be too small to read.

WHat is the "perfect" resolution when doing office work on a 15" screen?

1440x900 on a 15" panel is perfectly fine and nothing "low res" about it. There is 15" laptops running 1280x800! The 15" MBP isn't "high res" like some 15" panels, but it isn't "low res".

Working with Office on 1920x1200 on a 17" panel is fine - you can adjust the zoom to enlarge the document viewing. That is the ideal resolution IMO - you can have an Office document open and still have plenty of space for a Safari window for research, as well as maybe some other documents.

Each to their own - go to an Apple Store or local reseller and try out the two.

There's no "right" opinion - you should make your own mind up and try out both, decide what's best suited for you.

I agree with Kilamite. The 15" is perfect for Office use. Sure there are higher resolution 15" displays, but for many people that is not a good thing.

As said previously, the best thing is to go check them out for yourself!

Cheers.
