iPod Identifying My Ipod

My ipod touch's battery is not working so I am buying a new one but I do not know what generation my Ipod is, 2nd or 3rd because I know for sure it is not a 1st or 4th gen. It is an 8gb. Can someone please tell me what generation my ipod touch is.

Definitely a 2nd gen. The 3rd gen never had an 8GB model (the 2nd gen 8GB was kept available after the 3rd gen was announced).
