is anyone else having problems accessing their idisks?

one my dual 800 machine, when i connect to it, the ball spins and literally crashes my computer.... not good

i tried to connect to my parents' disk on their imac (same wireless network) and it doesn't crash, it just tries to connect for a while, then brings up an error..

anyone else having problems/

if anyone has an idisk, can you just try to connect to it and see if it works? thanks

yeah mine is doing the same thing. but im in panther so that doesnt say much.

ahh, thanks for the replies... guess that means it's not my general internet connection..

it's cool cause for once i have a somewhat professional need to have that storage space and bingo, shot down....

i love the ease of use of .mac for photo pages, but maybe just use a regular site, and get iview pro or something to shoot the pictures up.......

thanks again lads

-edit- well, at least apple updated their "available services" thing... now says idisk is down, but web based stuff is fine.. ah yes

Remember that in times of trouble, check with the .mac status page... here is what is says:

July 3rd, 2003
iDisk is currently unavailable, including client-based services that utilize your iDisk (like Backup, iPhoto, Mac Slides Publisher, and iCal). .Mac Web-bases services (like HomePage and WebMail) and email are unaffected.

I think that this is a great service but any service is bound to have failure every now and then, heck my ISP just fizzled out not that long ago and their response was so, we never said that there would be 100% up time all the time.. stupid att... oops.. stupid comcast.

i had checked, and initially, it said "all services available". i am just faster than apple. ;)

iDisk not working

Same problem here. Suddenly can't publish my iCal calenders, can't mount iDisk. Can't use iDisk Utility. Can't use Backup to get to iDisk either. Repaired permissions, upgraded to Panther 10.3.2. Deleted Keychain. Problem persists.

This problem is confined to only this .Mac account. I can mount my personal iDisk and publish my personal iCal calenders with no problem. When I try to use the other account and mount the iDisk from the Go menu, I get a spinning rainbow wheel in the Finder and can't even force-restart the Finder. I end up hard resetting the whole machine.

This problem is the same from any machine in the studio; I can use my own account with no problems, but when I try to use the studio account the Finder hangs and iCal can't publish. I get the same results at home, so this is not a firewall problem. Something must be wrong with the virtual volume associated with our studio .Mac account. This is a big problem because our people need to get to this iCal calender via HTTP.

From iDisk help on .Mac...

iDisk won't open using AirPort?

If you access the Internet using AirPort with Network Address Translation (NAT), you might have trouble opening your iDisk after upgrading your computer to Mac OS X version 10.1 or later.

To avoid problems, add your ISP's Domain Name System (DNS) server addresses and search domain to your computer's TCP/IP settings.

Open System Preferences and click Network. Choose AirPort from the Show pop-up menu and click the TCP/IP tab. Type your ISP's DNS server IP addresses in the Domain Name Servers field and their domain name in the Search Domains field, then click Apply Now.

For example, if your ISP is EarthLink, enter these addresses:

207.217.126.81
207.217.77.82
207.217.120.83

and this search domain:

earthlink.net

Press Return between addresses if you enter more than one.

If you don't know what values to enter, ask your ISP.

I'm trying to find out which 'Search Domain' I should use for NTL UK, but I hope this is some help!!
