I just finished an IDVD project on my MacBook (the base model with a combo drive) and I hooked it up to my firewire Sony Dual Layer DVD burner.. and the dvd doesn't get burned.

I remember idvd not being compatible with external dvd burners.. but that was a long time ago, or is still the same issue?

Edit : Never mind, I just checked the apple site and its supposed to be compatible.. probably my dvd burner acting up!

In the future, try File --> Save as Disk Image...

This will encode your DVD and make everything fine and dandy, however instead of burning it, it gives you a .dmg. You can burn the .dmg through Disk Utility with any DVD burner supported by OS X, which should be just about anything external or not.

Cheers
