idvd/superdrive problem

I have an imac and it won't recognize CDs or DVDs placed in the computer and when I open iDVD or try to burn from iTunes it says that the computer does not have a recognized SuperDrive. It came with a superdrive when I bought it and I have used idvd before to burn things. Any advice?
