If an iMac is in sleep mode, and the power goes out: does it harm it?

If an iMac (2011) is in sleep mode (not a single app, document/file open) and there's suddenly a power outage; could this event lead to hardware and/or software damage? and damage the iMac?

Years ago maybe but today they think of those problems way ahead. I wouldn't worry.

Nope, as long as the hard drive isn't spinning there isn't much reason for concern.

Power outage might be fine, but you can get stuff fried when the power goes back on if you don't have a good surge protector.
