If Android Was Called Something Else?

Just a shot in the dark here, but it seems like this would be a good discussion.

What if Android were to be "bought out" or simply changed their name and direction?

I only have apple devices. Honestly the only thing keeping me away from any android device is the bad rep the name has gotten as well as the clutter of phones/devices they've released.

Would any of you think this idea of changing the name/game plan would benefit anyone? Is the term "Android" associated to negative rep in your opinion?

Exactly! A lot of people need to forget what they have heard from a friend of a friend and actually try an android phone hands on.

Not some low end budget phone, but a Nexus or Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2 and the HTC/LG equivalents.

I think you would be pleasantly surprised with what it can do.

the android products I've owned have been sub-par. But I mean its cause it was the first gen android stuff and then I was like whatever iphone is better and never looked back...

And the point of this thread is that beyond this site, the people that I s/w on a daily basis or even at work would agree that they think most Android devices need something more or a change in order to be attractive.

As of today, including myself 7/13 people now have android phones. Mainly the Galaxy S3, one with the Galaxy S2 and one with the HTC 1. Very slowly im starting to see people realise what Android can do and that its not some confusing monster of an operating system.

The general opinion on the team I work with is that iPhones were great when the came out, but have stayed the same for too long and stagnated.

Changing the name will just look like a ploy to trick consumers, which it might very well be.

Android Inc. was founded in 2003 and later purchased by Google in 2005. I'm glad they kept the name from its origins.

Very happy with my Nexus experience so far. Wouldn't change it for any particular reason as it is today.

You shouldn't let the earlier Android phones put you off, before the Galaxy S (still not brilliant) 99% of phones running Android were terrible, clunky, laggy, unreliable & slow.

But now Android is one of, if not the leading mobile operating system. It's changed alot over the years, go and give a Galaxy S3, Note 2, Nexus or HTC one X a go. These devices are top spec premium devices, real power houses. Extremely Slick, smooth & fast.

Give Android a go, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

That's funny, for me it was the opposite. I started working at a Verizon wireless premium retailer and I had an iPhone on AT&T at the time. I also got a droid for work and everyone at work had droids. When the iPhone came to Verizon I got it instantly and so did another co worker. As time went on they all dropped their droids and went to the iPhone. People actually complained when the boss told them that he'd like more variety in the employees phones so we couldn't all get iPhones lol. I've dealt with soooo many droids and the vast majority of people coming in with serious phone problems have droids. So I don't believe Sting Operation is ignorant about droids. I have to agree with the bad rep the name has

If you simply put an Apple logo on any Android device and call it an iPhone, it would immediate be a lot more attractive to that segment of people you are referring to. I think a lot of people just look at the logo and just go nuts. My wife is one of them.

This is true. I wonder if you to remove the Google logo and other logos off an Android phone, slapped an on it and handed it to an 'iPhone fanboy' and said it was the new iPhone 5s or w/e...they'd probably love it!

I think it is a dumb question. Bad rep? lol, according to who? This forum called MacRumors? Android has the biggest marketshare all over the world.
