I can understand Apple using face scanning to tell you which inserts to use, but if they don’t include all the insert sizes in the box what’s gonna happen when your wife or kids want to try it out? Are we gonna have to buy additional shields and inserts separately?

It’s not meant for sharing so separate inserts will be needed at a minimum. However, I bet this thing with have retina scanning for security so unless it’s your eyes then it might be a pain to share.

It has OpticID to confirm it’s you to unlock it, but there is also a Guest Mode that allows for other people to use it (presumably locking out your photos/notes/etc)

Contents include different bands and light seals & cushions so it must be pretty universally fittable ?
  • Apple Vision Pro comes with a Solo Knit Band and Dual Loop Band — giving users two options for the fit that works best for them. Apple Vision Pro also includes a Light Seal, two Light Seal Cushions, an Apple Vision Pro Cover for the front of the device, Polishing Cloth, Battery, USB-C Charge Cable, and USB-C Power Adapter.
But then the face scanning prior to placing your order tells me they will ship with certain multiple sized seals & cushions.

If I spend $3500 my wife is sure gonna want to play with it a bit.

My guess would be Apple will sell additional light seals in different sizes for different people. Scan your significant other, kids, whoever and buy seals for them. Otherwise they can use the one you have (with guest mode) and they may have a less than ideal experience. I don't know if I'll get anything for my wife. She wears glasses (not contacts) and we'd have to get the special lenses too. I think she may to try it but wouldn't use it much even with the Rx lenses.

I think that it just wouldn't fit PERFECTLY, but still it should be possible to be used by anyone, unless the size is x small or x large, if chosen medium (if possible to be manually chosen) it should fit all. Look at other VR headsets...

Apple Vision Pro is designed today to be a personal computing device. If you intend to share it with friends or family, you'll have to purchase for $199 a new size and light seal and, if needed, prescription inserts for your family member on a per person basis since the fit is exclusively for you. Sharing it will cost you about $350.

Unfortunately, the software discourages sharing as well. It's your Vision Pro and you can enable guest mode which has access to only a couple of apps to allow someone to experience it but they can't go and put it on and have their photo library, movies and apps on it. It's more like an iPhone that's custom fit to fit only in your hands than a Mac that has support for multiple users.

It's just incredibly awkward because 1.0, most households that can afford one can ONLY afford one. You're going to spend $1000 more making it fit everyone in your family only to have them experience a few apps as a guest. I don't think that's going to change and all we can hope for is it becomes cheap enough that, like iPhones, everyone in your family just has one. Not really what I was hoping. My wife and I have different size heads and prescriptions but it's not even worth getting her a fitment / prescription kit because there's nothing she'll be able to do it with paired with me.

Our friends and family can certainly use the existing light seal, but may not be the most ideal "fit". Was quite surprised to see additional light seals are $200 (not including the light seal cushion). I guess I won't be ordering extras for the other family member.

When you add optical inserts to your cart individually it asks you if your intended use is to use it with someone else’s avp and you can do the scan for the light seal and the insert there to check if you need a different one than the owner however it won’t change the knit or double loop band so

This device, like almost every other Apple device, is not meant to be shared regularly. It's also highly personal and holds a lot of sensitive data that you probably don't want just anyone accessing with zero supervision.

If you really want to share it, I suppose you can disable Optic ID and purchase a different strap/light seal separately, you're not required to purchase a new AVP just to get those components. They are also interchangeable so if you wanted to share it with someone just put on their strap/seal. It also has guest mode, which we know very little about but presumably it'll allow you to let others play with it for short periods of time.
