If i Buy an iPhone 4 on Ebay, Do I need to Activate to use Wifi Only??

..If you buy an iPhone 4 off of Ebay, for example, can you use it as you would an iPod Touch, or is Activating the phone mandatory? I just want to use the iPhone 4 on Wifi. Can you just plug the iPhone 4, connect to iTunes and continue to use it with Wifi only?

Connect to iTunes and activate. Without the activation you basically have a paper weight. Once this is done you can now just use WiFi.

When you activate, doesnt that mean your signing a 2 year contract, therefore, leaving you with monthly fees?

You will still need a SIM card or else it won't start.

You need to get an iPod Touch.

Actually, all you have to do is get an AT&T GoPhone prepaid SIM card from eBay or something, put it in your iPhone, connect it to iTunes, Sync it, and voila, you can use the iPhone as an iPod touch. You can even activate the SIM card and use the iPhone as a prepaid phone without a jailbreak or unlock, thats what I do and it works great!

You're not signing a new contract, that's only done when you buy a phone from AT&T or Apple.

I'm using a GoPhone SIM in my iPhone 4 and it works just fine. You just have to print out a cutting diagram so you can cut it down to Micro SIM, its really simple.

This. Paying double the price for 256mb more of ram, a better camera, and IPS screen is totally not worth it unless you plan to use it as a phone on a different carrier.
