I purchased my iPhone 3G launch of last year. I am eligible for the early upgrade price of $499 for the 32 gig iPhone 3G S. It says I am eligible for a full upgrade price (of $299) March of 2010.

If I buy the iPhone 3G S now and sign a new 2 year contract, will I only be eligible for yet another only "early upgrade" price next year, or will I be able to get the next iteration of the iphone for the full subsidized price after March of 2010?

Here's what im doing:

Adding another line to get the 32gb canceling it after 30 days pay the ETF and months bill. So that way next year my current line will be eligible for the 2010 iPhone.

Bolded portion gives you your answer. The concept behind the early upgrade pricing is that you are effectively "buying out" your previous contract period. By extending your contract, you are pushing back your upgrade date to 18 months after the new start date.

OP You will not be eligible for the full subsidized price next year, should there be one, under current terms.

I believe you will need to sign up for ANOTHER 2 year contract if you purchase the iphone 3gs at the upgrade rate, which will not extend your contract out three years but "erase" the one additional year from your original 3g commitment.

I think what he wants to know is if he can get the early upgrade pricing every year.

I just called and asked. They told me that I wouldn't be eligible for full upgrade pricing until 16 to 18 months into new 2 year contract.

I am paying the early upgrade pricing on friday.

So that means no, you will not be eligible next year either.

Here, try this!

Sell current iPhone unlocked on Ebay for $350 or more. Buy iPhone for no contract price of $699.99. Get 2010 version iPhone at upgrade pricing.

Please make this make more sense

My way is still cheaper

Adding another line to get the 32gb canceling it after 30 days pay the ETF and months bill. So that way next year my current line will be eligible for the 2010 iPhone.

300(32gb)+175(ETF)+90.00(bill)= $565-350(sell 3g)= $215

and in 2010 your current line will be available for full upgrade on the next iPhone.

Are you not eligible for the early upgrade (+$200 price)?

You're signing another 2 year contract if you buy the phone subsidized. So you start from where you were when you bought the 3G.

What Part

of a 2 year Contract do people have trouble understanding. I am getting my 3GS Friday renewing my Contract I expect my 3GS to be with me for 2 years. after that I can get bright new Iphone. if AT&T says I can get it in say 18 months or anytime before they are helping me out. other wise I pay the upgrade fees if I want a new Iphone or any other phone early!

people nowadays are mo*** that don't seem to understand the meaning of a contract

No one knows what next year will hold, who knows if there will be a new iphone, or if there will be new upgrade rules
