I didn't think it'd be a 5gig download started downloading it but just about nodding off, don't really wanna pause it. Can I let it go and just install in the morning or will it install itself (what happens if my computer goes to sleep)? I don't want to corrupt anything.

If I go to bed while my iMac is downloading Mavericks will it harm anything?

No it won't auto install. Goto bed and when you wakeup in the morning it will (hopefully) have downloaded ready to install.
As above, once it downloads the file it will ask a couple of questions before actually installing.
That being said, I clcked in the initial install buttons after download and went to bed. Woke up thinking that I would be faced with questions to answer , but found the install completely finished. Very impressed ( new mac user coming from windows )
