If I got an ATT iPhone 5...?

Could I use it on verizon?
It would cost me less to literally go get a new one on contract with att then cancel the contract.

Umm... no. A GSM phone will not work on a CDMA network.

Verizon will not activate it on their network.
Even though technically both AT&T and Verizon i5 models have GSM and CDMA chips inside its a carrier restriction and not a hardware restriction.
Verizon wants you to buy their specific iphone. Sprint the same way.
