if I hang the AirTag on the rearview mirror inside my car, can I let family members see where I am at all times?

obviously, it will only be possible when I'm in the car with my iPhone...

also... with summer coming soon, will the AirTag stand up to the heat inside a parked car?

Thanks!

You could always just share your location from the phone. Wouldn’t that be easier?

No, not right now, not easily. The only way they can track your Airtag is if they sign into your iCloud account using their Find My app.

Or assign THAT tag to your family member as in bind it to THEIR account. But even then, there is a delay in the location reporting.

When I want my family to now where I am when I'm out and about I just share my apple maps or waze route with them.

Doing what you suggest is a bad idea for the reasons everyone has expressed. But also, the text I quoted is untrue. You don't need to have your iPhone near an AirTag to track it. The AirTag uses the Find My network to report its location.

currently only the person who a tag is registered to can see where it is, there's not even an option to share one with family members.
having a tag with you that's not yours will cause the security measures to start kicking in. Your phone will alert you if it sees a tag that's away from it's owner that's been around you for a while, and the tag will start beeping.

the people part of find my app already has this built in, and will work much better, than trying to do it with a tag.
You can pick who to share with, and have the options to share for an hour, till the end of day, or until you tell it to stop.
It will use your phone, or if you have a cellular watch, it can use that if your phone isn't with you.

Find people is also better because you can make alerts, Want to know when your spouse has left work, or you kid is approaching home, that's easy to do with people, but not items.

No doubt Apple will be expanding what we can do with Find My over time, but to make sure this is on their radar, you should submit a feedback request, detailing the use cases you want to see. :)

surprised with all the confusion over these things.

AirTag are meant to track lost items. Not real-time tracking. End of story. That's how Apple designed them.

Right...because use cases for products never change...

Anyone that wants to try out tracking your car - thinking one of these under the hood may be handy:

No, on multiple accounts :
It will show where your car is not you.
it would have to be an air tag belonging to someone other than you and only that one person could see it.
Why not just add them asa friend and allow tracking of your phone. Leave it in the office before you go to your mistresses house.

Is it possible to grant access to track just that AirTag, without tracking where my phone is?

Ahh. I understand. You want to park your car at work, and since your spouse thinks you’ll be at work, you’ll sneak off over to your side gig ?
