If I have kept backing up iTunes to an external, how can I open that up?

I have kept backing up iTunes over the years to an external that I keep as a bootable backup. While my computer ha like 100GB of music, the backup has over 500GB. Question: Can I open up that backup as a separate iTunes library? I'd love to play iTunes off the backup, as it would have more music options.

If you've actually copied your iTunes folder over to your external, then you can just hold down the option key while starting iTunes, and use the Dialog to choose one of those older libraries.
