I bought a 12 inch MacBook and am loving it.. however have notice that whenever I type on the keyboard, if a word comes up with the a recurring letter, such as 'book' then I have to type the O twice.. before on my previous MacBook Pro 2015 I could simply just hold onto the O a millisecond longer and a 2nd O would show up on the screen.

It seems that if I press and hold any key on my keyboard that is either a letter or a number than I have to press the key repeatedly if I want more of the same... but with the other keys such as forward slash or comma or the less than and more than signs or tilde or apostrophe, with those keys I can press and hold any of them and it'll keep adding them on my word document or notes or whatever app im using on macOS.

Help is appreciated cause this is weird and never encountered this before.

That is the new default for Macs. Holding down the letter key will show the various options for that letter.

You can change this setting, but it requires you to use the terminal.

Here is the command:

defaults write NSGlobalDomain ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false

Default behavior now for pressing & holding a letter, is to gain accented versions. There are ways to change that, perhaps the terminal method @hg.wells posted - personally I don’t bother with that because it’ll probably reset after a macOS update then I have to figure out what I did to change it last time 😬
