I want to use my iphone out side the US with another carrier, but I want to continue to use it with ATT when I get back to the US.

My contract is still active and I don't want to terminate it.

If I unlock my iphone 5C in Europe, can I still use it with ATT, here?

Yes, unlocked iphone will let you use your phone on many other carriers but does not affect on your original carrier.
