If I put a verizon sim, would I not be able to make calls?

My iPhone 5 is unlocked, so how do I know which carriers will work overseas?

I bought an AT&T one

because a verizon sim is only for LTE service.. and the att phone doesnt use the same bands.

for voice and 3g service it uses the esn..which would require that verizon has your esn in their system..which they dont.. as well as the cdma ipsw on it.

Because the AT&T doesn't support the Verizon LTE frequencies and doesn't support CDMA at all. AT&T model will not support LTE in Europe either.... only HSPA+.

AT&T model does support LTE in Canada, while the Verizon version does not.

Hopefully someday, Qualcomm will dream up an LTE chip that supports all bands on the same phone.

I see. Well as long as I'm ok overseas that's all that matters.

I go out of the country every few years and I'm looking forward to taking the iPhone 5 this time around.

I'll likely get a prepaid data/minutes plan. Hopefully a good 5GB or so and 60-90 min max.

That's all I'll probably need.
