Just to clarify, most Wal-Marts are not open 24/7. The closest one to me is about an hour away, and I have about ten that are closer to me that are not open 24/7. That is only for the super Wal-Marts. Even though they are becoming more popular, it is still not the case for everyone.

Aside from that, this is a good question. I am trying to think what they did for Black Friday. I thought that they did a 12:00 a.m. launch. However, Apple and AT&T may not allow them to do this.

They won't go on sale at midnight. They will end up waiting until the Apple Stores open. Usually with product launches, the product manufacturer will set a "Go" time. Only after that can they sell it. Since we don't know that yet, you can't say for sure what time they will go on sale.

I believe I stated that it they would not let it happen.

I'm going to say no, simply because while a lot of Walmart stores are 24/7, the entire store isn't 24/7. For example, electronics usually closes at 9 or 10pm and doesn't "reopen" until 8ish.

Since contract phone purchases are made in electronics, I'm guessing it won't launch at 12am. Even if Walmart wanted to remain open, my bet is Apple's "go time" isn't until 5pm the day of the launch.

My AT&T store opened and gave me my iphone 3 hours before the apple store opened, in the case of the 3gs.

AT&T stores in the past would give out the phone before most apple stores.

NEVER heard of a walmart super center electronics department closing at ANY time. Don't think they do that.

The Walmart SuperCenter on Highway 183 (Airport Freeway) in Arlington, TX is open 24/7, but the electronics department is closed down at night.

Just TRY to buy even a DVD at night there :D..They have the whole place locked up, shut down, and unmanned.

Yeah, I've never heard that either? I work late hours and sometimes I head into a Wal-Mart after work (2-3am) and I've never had any issue purchasing an electronic item. Obviously, it may not be staffed as usual... but that doesn't mean you can't shop from that department!

I went into Wal-Mart at midnight when Burning Crusade released (World of Warcraft) and picked it up. Obviously, this won't happen with the iPhone... it's just an example of never seeing an electronics department closing.

Hahaha, can't you grab an employee and ask for something? I've done this...

This Walmart in Arlington might be an anomaly, but once, a couple of years ago, I asked them to unlock the place where they keep the DVDs, and you would have thought that I asked them for their first-born child! They told me they couldn't do it...but I was persistent...FOR A DVD, can you believe it???

That's hilarious. I know we've gotten a bit off track here... but I think this thread is done anyway.

Fact is, there will be no iPhone at midnight for Wal-Mart.

I called my local walmart, which is where I do my att stuffs. They are not considered an att store and wont be taking pre-orders.

Not sure if all walmarts are like that but this is a super center so perhaps it is. Good luck though

Walmart on the 24th -> iPhones at midnight?

Walmart is reported to be selling the iPhone 4 on June 24th.

Since many (if not all) Walmarts are open 24 hours, do you think they'll start to sell iPhones at midnight? Or will they wait until 7/8AM when AT&T starts selling them?

For the iPad, 24-hour Apple Stores closed the night before and re-opened the following morning at the same time the non-24-hour Apple Stores did.

I wouldn't imagine that Apple would let a reseller start selling before they did.

Walmart Launch... Possible at midnight?

Most walmarts are 24 hours. would it be possible they start selling at midnight or do you think they are going to wait til 7am aswell

Hmmm... I don't know. It would be smart of Apple to let Walmart start selling at midnight to take some load of servers, etc. but I just don't see it happening... They probably fear that they will get less business if they let Walmart start selling a full (8?) hours ahead of time. It will probably be like black friday though, where they bring all of their supplies out at midnight but have it plastic wrapped so people can't access it. Then again, iPhones don't just sit out on the shelves so I'm not sure.

If I had to guess at your question I would probably say no. But hey, who am I? :p
