2.8x8 - $2399 - 6 Gb ram $2560
3.0x8 - $2799 - 6 Gb ram $2960
2.26x8 - $2799 - 6 Gb ram $2799

Am up against the wall, as I have a fast turn around job on 4/24 - will be 2- 2 hour DVD's & my G5 takes 20 + hours just for rendering each for DVD.

Also working on a rough cut for PBS that I want in soon and am doing a 20 second clip with 60 video layers, and the G5 is really bogging down on that one.

Which is the best value and which is more "future proof" in regards to software development?

I would get either 2.8GHz 8-core or 2.93GHz quad core. FCS doesn't support quad or eight core AFAIK
