if someone buys the iPhone 12 Pro right now(next Thursday, to be precise).....

how much will it be worth if he trades it to Apple for iPhone 13 Pro on the day it goes on sales later this year?

(put it another way, I'm trying to convince him to wait a few months and just wait for the 13 Pro) :)

Thanks!

Trade in? No where near what you paid if paying retail… you’d be better selling it on swappa before or after the iPhone 13 rather than trading.

if you buy a 12 now, there is no reason you need to buy a 13 when released
I would sort of disagree on that. The 12 hasn't been that great for me. Mostly for the weird app glitches , laggyness, and cellular issues which all are widepread issues. Battery life and design is great though!

But I'm ready to get rid of mine for the 13

Widespread issues?! Can you point to some literature on this?! None of those seems to be widespread issues particularly for the 12.

Main one being this.

Me and everyone I know that has the 12 series no matter the carrier has this issue where data will stop working randomly etc.

And tons of people always complaing about it on Reddit usually in carrier subs until people realize it’s the phone not the Carrier.

Also one game I recently got back into Pokémon go, it runs like absolute trash, while it runs smooth as butter on a $200 (free with promo phone) but not a $1300 iPhone lol.

Oh wait one more… the camera. In certain lighting conditions the camera freaks out and the sensor shakes. There’s a few posts here on it so it was a relief to know it wasn’t an issue with just mine either. Seems to be just the 12 pro Mac

Convince him to wait for a few months? Just say this: his newly bought iPhone 12 will worth 1/5 of its original cost or even lower if it is used for trade-in the second his return window passes. No need for exact value, just scare a bit out of him while also conveying the harsh truth of apple trade-in program.

Hmmmm…I had the opportunity in February to either get the 12 Pro Max or the 11 Pro Max. The difference in monthly payments between the two to my carrier was about $100 (for two). Because I don't need 5G and I didn't want to wait for my model (Space Gray, 512GB) to come into stock for the 12 PM I went with the 11 PM for my wife and I.

Now, you are pointing out problems that exist with the 12 series.

Makes me glad I ignored the T-Mobile rep and went with the 11 Pro Max.

I've not had any of these issues with the 2 12's (Pro and regular 12) in my household. Had my 12 Pro since late November on AT&T with no connectivity issues at all. Got another regular 12 about 2 months ago for my spouse and its rock solid as well. Not discounting that there may be issues folks have faced, but that's not been my experience.

I'd just wait. Why bother with all the hassle for the sake of 6-8 weeks or so......

He will be lucky to get 40% of what he paid trading in to Apple.

Is there precedent on when trade-in values change?

I mean does it necessarily happen the day after the 13 is announced?

Wouldn’t an iPhone 12 Pro trade-in be less today than it was 10 months ago?
