I haven't seen any reports (at least on these forums) of Airs with failed RAM, and they've been shipping with soldered RAM since 2008. In my personal experience almost all troubles with RAM happen right out of the box. If you did have an out-of-warranty RAM failure though it would require a logic board replacement.
