If you were a scientist and you found out how to time travel, would you release the technology to the public?
Alt Topic-Suggessted by Doctor Q: If you could time travel once in your life, where(when) would you go and what would you do?

I'd like to hear the reasoning of the person who voted yes. Also, would you guys use it yourself without telling others? I would.

Why tell anyone, think of the money you can make on the JFK and OJ Simpson High Definition videos. :p

That and going back and finding out you were the cause of Hitler's missing testicle, or the groin injury that caused it.

Or you could buy a lot of AAPL after Steve left.

No, because someone will **** everything up for personal gain, and if I discover time travel, if anyone's going to **** everything up for personal gain, it's going to be me ;)

If everyone could use the technology it's hard to imagine how different the world would be.

I think we should give the specific idea (everybody can time travel) with whatever restrictions we come up with (e.g., only backwards, only once per person) to a team of science fiction writers and see what they come up with.

User Tomorrow may have summed it up here but it's hard to tell.

I'd keep it to myself and use the ability to make money:D, then maybe release it;)

Why would you release it? I curious as to your reasoning.
Edit: @Doctor Q, When I saw your name in the forum spy; I thought you were going to lock this thread. Phew!

Always go back, pretend to be an alien, and tell everyone in the church that L Ron Hubbard is a fake.

Let's say that I went back to the past and gave the Steve Jobs of the 1970's a Mac Pro to reverse engineer. I did this because I think that technology of today is way too slow. Now back in my world I would give some super mac to Steve in the '70's. Would the trend grow exponentially?

I would use it to go back in time and word this poll correctly.

If you discovered time travel, what would you do?

Yes.
No.

I would realize that statistically it would be only a matter of time until another person invented a similar device, and thus I would wait. If no one invented it in 10 years time, the machine could be used for strictly controlled selfish exploitation, and then destroyed.

No one should be entrusted with that type of power, especially a human who can't understand the connotations of his/her actions. If use continues, it would inevitably fall into the "wrong" hands bent on the manipulation of spacetime in the name of personal disposition.

I wouldn't tell anyone except close family. Then use it for personal gain :D. If anything goes wrong I could just go back and start over.

If I shared it, I'd be killed by the person I shared it with first before I shared it with him so that he would take the credit. Then he'd get killed by the next person, blah blah blah.
