Just wondering because on AT&T it's telling me a no commitment price of $599 for some reason. I don't mind signing (yet) another two years but it'd have to be $399. Help? Pardon the newbishness.

Why am I only seeing the $599 16GB 3G S "no commitment" price on my AT&T account?

Some people get $599 and $699, others get $399 and $499. It depends on your plan and when you can upgrade. Some people pay more for texts/minutes each month, so they'll be able to upgrade quicker without the upgrading fee or upgrade for a lower price. Honestly the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of considering a ton of 3G owners would be willing to buy the 3GS and AT&T would be able to keep them in another 2 year contract and keep business, but now when the new iPhone comes out next year, a lot of people might ditch AT&T if Apple comes to its senses and becomes open to any carrier like Verizon or TMobile.

That's a BIG IF. I for one would love Verizon to carry it. However I don't see that happening anytime soon. But I would love to be wrong on this. I am a Verizon fan and only came to AT&T for the iPhone. If it moves else where (Sprint or Verizon) I am cancelling my contract. Yes it would suck to have to pay a penalty for cancelling, however I am going to enjoy the new iPhone now instead of "wishing" it goes to Verizon or Sprint to hope to save a little money. After all you only have one life to live.

I spoke to an AT&T agent the other day, and they informed me that I can "upgrade" my iPhone 3G 8GB for the 3G S 16GB for $399 if I sign another 24 month commitment. Otherwise, the price would be $599/16GB and $699/32GB (no commitment).

Oh ok, so before I try to sell my iPhone 3G (only to have to fork over $599), it absolutely is $399 for me, an existing 3G customer who wants to sign another two years but is still in the contract?

Two of the four lines on our family plan, both non-iPhone users, are eligible for the $399/499. However both me and my dad, my dad being the primary line of our family plan, are ineligible for even the $399/499 and have to pay the no commitment pricing according to online. We even have a fifth line where we pay for a laptop card. We pay a ton, I can't believe online is telling us this!

I hope they're wrong.

I paid $399 last year for my 3G iPhone. And I checked on the Apple site and it says I am eligible for the 399/499 3GS iPhone.

So I'll be paying $399 for a 16GB 3GS next week. I sold my 8GB 3G on eBay for $375, so I don't have much coming out my pocket for the new one.

If that is what your att account says, then that is the price you will have to pay. If you want to do the 199/299 price, then you would have to wait until the upgrade date shown on the account or told by an att rep on the phone or store.

Went to the ATT store and the total cost is $441 not counting the $18 that shows up on your first bill. Also they won't let you pre-order it if you're an iPhone 3G owner because you haven't had it for a year.

Edit: It's around $441 give or take a few dollars forgot the actual total.
