I want to buy an Ipad 3 but just wondering for people who just bought an IPad 3, could you confirm which IOS did you get installed?

I am particular looking for IOS 5.1.1 since I heard horrible things about IOS 6.0

If you gotten an Ipad 3, with IOS 5.1.1, please let me know

Thanks in advance!

I bought one on the 12th from the Apple store. It was running 5.1.1.

Good luck.

When I got my ipad 3 on sept 23rd it came with iOS 5.1.1 installed. He minute I got it out of the box I upgraded to iOS 6 with no problems at all.

iPad Maps?

You use your iPad for Maps?

Are you one of those people that carry around and use iPads like most people do phones?

There is nothing wrong with iOS6 or even the Maps application.

In fact the new Maps application actually pinpointed my address. The old Google based map application has me living in the middle of a lake a half mile away. When it comes to map applications they ALL have their issues. Map applications are only as good as the information that is supplied. At least for me, so far, the new Map application has been very correct, and even showed alternative routes that may be quicker during certain parts of the day like rush hour. Some of the alternative routes I wasn't even aware of.

My old car had a store bought TomTom GPS unit in it and it's maps weren't 100% correct. At the time it didn't even know where my apartment complex was. The complex itself was just about a year old when I moved in. Once the map was updated the newer roads were added. My newer car has OnStar and even they can't provide directions on occasion, and when they can the route isn't necessarily the best route to take.

The new Apple Maps app works, it's not perfect, but it does work and unlike Google Maps which has been around about a decade and still can't get even my address correct, the Apple application will only improve overtime as the maps and the information in the maps is updated.

iOS6 was a big upgrade for the iPad 3 and I think you'll probably want to install it anyway eventually. Of course, Apple maps leave much to be desired but I don't use my tablet to navigate so its not an issue. It's more of a problem with my iPhone, which I have not upgraded for that reason.

5.1.1 is better in many ways. More reliable maps data, faster, better battery life, and you can jailbreak (what I miss most). I'd say you can update to 6 after it gets jailbroken because you can bet that a Google Maps app will show up on Cydia.

I got 5.1.1 (I guess) in New York.

It immediately updated to 6.0 when I started it up...

This was a couple of weeks ago.

Faster? Are you using iPad 2 or 3?
