Then I can't see why you would want to upgrade to the iPhone 4GS - In another 6/12 months the iPhone 5 will be out and to take out another 18/24 month contract now would be crazy, no?

Is anyone that took out a 24 month contract getting the iPhone 4s on the 14th?

Just interested - In my eyes there aren't any game changers big enough to justify it! I'll definitely get the 5 though when it's out! :)

I can only speak for ATT users like myself. ATT allows you to upgrade an iphone before 24 months. I have had my Iphone4 for about 14 months and am eligible. I have heard rumors this is changing and for the 4S ATT will hold you to 24 months but his is not confirmed.

Fortunately my wife and I are on family plan with contracts ~12 months out of sync. So I can upgrade to the 4S now and she gets my 4 (to replace a dumb phone), then hers will be available for upgrade next year. We can keep going indefinitely with one current and one previous-gen phone.

See, being married has benefits! :D

I just picked up the iPhone 4 today because the 4S does not seem like a huge improvement, and I wanted to get the discount.

But I can go back to the Apple store next week and exchange the 4 for the 4S without any complications.

Haha! This is EXACTLY what I do. Except it is my husband that gets to be the gen behind. ;)

Not expecting any new iPhone until Sep/Oct of next year...

Apple is clearly trying to take their time on making iOS software.

There is indeed just one thing you can count on when it comes to Apple.

You cannot count on anything :)
