Can anybody explain this to me?

My system tells me I have over 35gig of apps; my apps folder says I have just under 7gig.

I know there is a 2.5GB app in downloads, making almost 10GB--- where can i find the other 25GB sneaking around in my machine like potential gremlins?!?!

All help gratefully received

and maybe i should add i have searched and searched and searched again and can't find to anything of this ilk nor magnitude

I believe that includes /library/application support and /user/library/application support. But looking at my own storage graph, my Apps occupy 23.55 GB whereas my Applications folder is 26.6 GB.

Curious...

Download a small, free utility called DiskWave:
http://diskwave.barthe.ph

Just launch it - you'll see what to do next.
TIP: In DiskWave's preferences, you should choose to make normally-invisible files VISIBLE.

Do you have a lot of apps for your iPhone or iPad that are synced to your computer in the iTunes folder? I'm not sure if they would show up as apps or not in the disk usage, but that might explain it.
