I apologize if this was posted before.
So, let's somebody steals my iPhone and gets away with it.
I'm in Canada and am using a locked iPhone 3G. I understand to replace the phone costs much more than the original $199 deal. Has anyone (particularly in Canada) lost their first iPhone 3G and have gotten another? Can you tell me how much the second phone cost? Would it make sense in the event that I lost my iPhone 3G to instead buy a 2G iPhone off eBay for ~$400?

Thanks!

Don't apologize for this "possibly being posted before" because it has and a simple search would have answered your question. But I'll answer it. You will have to pay full price for the next phone.

A friend of mine did just this. Rogers told him that it would cost him $600 to replace it!!!!! He was livid and spent many hours on the phones talking to various salespersons before being told that he would be charged $199 and a re-activation fee. Shocking!!!!

So he ended up getting it for cheaper by being unsatisfied with the second-iPhone price increase? Neat.

I would treat that as an exception to the normal $600 charge in Canada, don't expect that to happen very often or even once in the OP's case.

Don't worry the reduction was more than paid for by the amount of years of life lost phoning those gits at Rogers...
