its because they went and screwed with how it works. I you go into Settings>Music and the switch is on for iCloud Music Library, it erases your iTunes made smart playlists and switches to syncing on device made playlists over iCloud. So its either iCloud based playlists or iTunes made playlists but not both. This app while nice in some parts just seems like a rushed mess.
 
Unbelievable - I want to listen to Apple music in offline mode and in order to do that I need to sacrifice 10 years of playlist work. Any solution to this?
 
yes very easy solution. Turn iCloud Music Library off, then plug your phone into iTunes. Sync your playlists as normal, then when you turn on iCloud Music Library again on your device select 'Merge'. Sorted.
