I use iGoogle and I'm not happy. this is also a note for other people who use
iGoogle. will this affect my email or safari?

Yes, that's November 2013.

I think the better question is has anyone who's currently using iGoogle and Safari (I'd rather not use Chrome) find something compatible?

I use iGoogle with Safari, but it's not something I can't live without. All that information can be accessed many ways.

I switched to Netvibes and actually prefer it over iGoogle. This will walk you through switching.
