iHome iA5 with Otterbox Commuter

I've got an iHome iA5 alarm clock on the way and I'm looking to buy an Otterbox Commuter. Anyone have experience with these to know whether the two work without removing the case? I have the 3GS.

If they don't work out of the box, is there an extender people have used to make it work? I saw iExtend but will it be required?

I have that case and needed an extender for my Sony alarm clock. Most cases don't allow for docking unless it's a slider
