Hi,

Just tried to request my $10 version of iLife '09 using the online forms (http://www.apple.com/ilife/uptodate/) and it can't find my serial number.

Anybody else had this experience? In this day and age I loathe having to phone up for these things :)

If the serial number you're referring to is your Mac's serial number, click on the Apple in the top left corner, click About this Mac. On the new window that opens, click where it says Version 10.5.6 twice and it should show you your Mac's serial number.

Apologies, I wasn't clear.

I have my serial number for my macbook pro but when I step through the online forms to approve my $10 ilife, it doesn't recognize it.

i put my serial in, added a day from jan 5th to 6th and wahey it accepted !

Since they state that it only applies to systems purchased on January 6th or after that makes sense. On the other hand if you actually did buy your system on the 5th or before, just changing the date in the qualification form is not going to make you eligible, since the term and conditions of the offer include the following sorry to say:

To receive your iLife ’09 upgrade, you must complete the order form and provide a photocopy of a dated, itemized sales receipt or packing slip indicating the marketing part number(s) of the qualifying system(s) purchased.

I have this problem too... I bought it yesterday, and I'm using the right serial number. I verified it on apple's warranty checking page and it's recognized there, but not on the iLife order form.

They told me at the store that I was eligible too so I'm not sure what's up.

i ordered on Jan 3rd, and apple sent me confirmation email !

The form is not working for either of my new Macs. I get the same message, "Sorry, we can't find the serial number you provided. Please recheck your serial number and enter it again."

Has anyone had success with it?

I haven't had any luck either..purchase my MB on Jan 12th...faxed in the order form a few days ago...checked status online a few minutes ago, no record found :(

trying to register my ilife - keeps asking for the marketing part number which should be on the package - no number that matches the format is on the box. Any ideas?

For curiosity, did the outside sleeve of yours not have the information on the bottom edge as shown below?

I'm having (I think) the same problem as the person you asked this question. I got the $9.95 upgrade for a Mac purcased in January, and, no, the sleeve has nothing that interesting. Just a couple of simple stickers that are probably the same everywhere. No numbers other than "'09" and "10.5.6". The accompanying instruction card is similarly bland.

So it won't let me register. Now what? :(

Oh, BTW, macaco mentioned a box. I didn't get a box. Maybe that's if you don't get the $9.95 deal. Mine came in a bland bubble-padded envelope (now long gone--I hope the MPN wasn't printed on that!).

And for those struggling with the Web page to get to even obtain the $9.95 offer, I also struggled. But in my case it fussed about the date. I kept trying different dates. It finally validated the date when I entered a date one day after the date I registered the computer, which was a few days after I bought it. In case that helps anyone. . . .

Ha! I found it using the none-of-the-above technique! I went to the online Apple store, looked up my order for the software, clicked a link for details, and there was a mystery string of letters and numbers beginning with M. I plugged that in to the registration Web page, and it liked it. Sheesh!

Glad to hear you worked it out- sure seems like could have made it simpler by just putting a sticker on the sleeve like they did on the retail boxed versions!

An off topic question for you (since you have private messages and email from members disabled)- is your user name based on being a 79 grad of Cal Poly by chance? I have to ask since I am a 78 grad. ;)

for anyone else that gets the ilife09 in the yellow evelope your serial number is the number on the very bottom backside of the envelope. like a dumbass i just had to dig it out of the trash

In my defense i will say it doesnt look anything at all like a serial

serial number

I just tried my serial number and had the same problem. Tried like 3 times and it sent me to the mail in order form. Not to be paranoid, but it seems they are making it hard for us to upgrade. Probably just a bug but it sure is annoying. I've got a 2.66 Imac I bought Jan 17. I tried buy it in the store and they said I had to do it online to get the discount! That's such BS, and plain bad PR. I think I'll go back to the store, tell them what happened online (and maybe administer a few genius weggies) and demand a $10 copy of I life, hell, free for that matter, since you're supposedly only paying for shipping. Let them deal with the hassle.
