Is this something new? Also, I noticed it does not say this for the 5C.

It is for all devices purchased after September 1st, or some devices replaced after that date. This was announced at the iPhone keynote last month.

And once you have downloaded them on your new device, they also appear under the Not On This iPad/ iPhone section in the App Store for your older devices.

Why are all title threads wrong in this forum??

I mean we are looking at missinformation here in numerous topics...

iLife and iWokr are not free JUST for iphone5s but they are also free for iphone 5c and any devices sold after 09/01 AS WELL.

People tend to forget that apple released 2 iphones this time around.

Same thing is happening in numerous title threads, like the one talking about iphone 5s having issues with inclinometer/gyroscope values, when in fact iphone 5c shares the same problem...

Seriously fix the titles. People need to be informed properly.

One more time, iwork and ilife is also free for all iphone 5c and new devices from 09/01.

I had assumed that GarageBand was a part of the iLife suite, but I do not see it among the apps in the OP's pic. Can anyone confirm getting this for free with the rest of the apps after a recent purchase of a new iDevice? I haven't bought a 5s, yet, and I'd really like to know if this is included. Thanks, sent from my iPhone 5.

GarageBand is not free.

How do you get them for free? They are not free when I go to the App Store

The first time you open the App Store on a new device activated after the free software announcement you get the prompt to install them.
If you don't, then close the App Store and use the multi-task tray to force close the App Store and then re-open it.

"iLife" and "iWork" free for iPhone 5S

So we have to set the phone up as new to get these for free? I did an icloud restore and they did show as free but wouldn't download. Restarted device then they decided to show at full price.

I was able to get them for free on my iPhone 5 by simply restoring and then setting it up as a new phone. Afterwords, I just did a restore from backup.

Just to clear things up a bit:

Apple has made iWork free for all newly purchased iOS devices. By the time you read this, all iPads, iPhones, and iPod touches should offer you a free download when you first activate your device.
