I am just starting to see comments from users that Apple is no longer going to support iMovie and possibly all apps in iLife and iWork. Is this why we hear nothing about upgrades to these products? Are they getting out of the software business?

Apple has not made any official comments on the status of iLife or iWork. I'd say they're not getting out of the software business, just look at the apps they've released for iOS.
