iLife for PowerMac G4

Quick question, I currently have a PowerMac G4 MDD (dual 867MHz) which is fully upgraded with 200GB HDD, 2GB RAM, 10.5.8 Leopard and the stock AGP graphics card.

What is the latest version of iLife I can run on this thing? I am aware that it will probably struggle with HD video, but being able to edit and export in 720P would be nice. The last time I looked into it, I think I came to the conclusion that iLife '06 was the newest version I could run.

Can anyone confirm this, or can I run a newer iLife on it? I currently run the first ever version of iLife, which was bundled with the machine when I bought it.

It can run iLife '08, however not iMovie '08 unless you hack it (It "requires" a G5) - The best supported combination is thus iLife '08 with iMovie HD '06.

Ok thanks very much! So how would I be able to get iMovie HD '06 ? I am aware they offered it as a free download for iLife '08 for a while but I thinks that's done away with now. I assume then I would have to purchase iLife 06 to get this anyway ?

Yes you would, unless you can find someone with the DMG file - iLife 06 runs amazingly on my Dual 867 MDD, and I prefer it for speed reasons (It is definitely faster than iLife '08)

Awesome, thanks for that! I will just get iLife '06 then Hows 720P HD output in iMovie? I assume it either doesnt work, or takes a very long time and many freezes!

I really wouldnt like to do anything over SD on a G4 based machine as far as editing goes (Then again Im spoilt by my Mac Pro, which is my editing station) - It might cope with it, but be prepared for very long Render Times.

Thats what I was thinking. I saw your unboxing of the MDD the other day actually, I'm a subscriber! As for HD editing, it usually gets done on my quad-core PC. But at the end of the day, the software is not the best of things! iMovie makes life so much more simple. Thanks for the advice

Awesome - yeah, new MDD for iTunes... xD And thanks for subscribing (And iMovie is so much more simple )
