:confused:OK so I have an unlocked 3gs (old bootrom) and its on 4.0 and the base band is 04.26.08 I was trying to see if there is a way for me to update my base band without losing my unlock. I have heard that when you have the older base band you can experiance problems. everything have been fine until just recently Ive been losing signal in places that i normaly would have great service and I would also like to update to the latest software that I can.

Can I update to 4.1 and still unlock it. If so what is the best way to go at it.

OP still has a point, they update the basebands for more than just blocking unlockers.

I think what he is asking is there a list somewhere of what ipsw versions contain what basebands?

Because knowing that you could update to the last official firmware/baseband that supported unlock, and then cook a custom ipsw to get to 4.2.1 as applejuiced says.

Careful with this though, I am just learning myself.

I'm in the exact same situation. The Dev Team have posted this:

Update #3: For those Mac users with an old-bootrom 3GS who really know what they’re doing, here’s a minimal 3GS 4.2.1 bundle that will get you to 4.2.1 without updating your baseband. Be sure to uncheck “Activate the iPhone” using Expert mode. To actually jailbreak after you’ve restored with the help of that bundle, please use redsn0w. If you don’t know how to drop a bundle into PwnageTool.app, please hold off on 4.2.1 until it’s untethered for everyone (or wait for a nice tutorial from somewhere like http://iclarified.com)

I did that last night on my 3GS and worked great. It involves a few more steps but should do the job.

Can you sort of go over the steps? I have the minimal bundle already in the pwnage package folder.

Just would like to be sure of the steps the rest of the way.

Just tried it but no luck.

Put the "bundle" into the package contents of PwnageTool. Ran Pwnage, created the custom firmware, put the iPhone into DFU Mode and tried to restore with the custom firmware but got an error. :(

Am I missing anything?

All done, just syncing my stuff back.

Thanks everyone for the help. :)

Can you give me an outline of the steps you took?

I tried last night but got an error from iTunes.

I tried last night but got an error from iTunes.

1. Download iOS 4.2.1
3. Patched pwnagetool with the bundle from DEV site
4. Run pwnagetool, use iOS 4.2.1 fw (expert mode)
5. Choose build to create custom fw (uncheck activate)
6. Put device in DFU mode
7. Restore using iTunes with the custom fw.
8. Run redsn0w, no update firmware (point at org firmware, just check Cydia)
9. Install ultrasn0w 1.2 to unlock

The only problem I am having is the battery drain from it trying to get the push stuff. I have a AT&T sim (deactivated) but so far I can not get activated by AT&T. I know there is a fix in the works, but is there a trick that anyone has to get it to work with the sim?

I have a 3gs, new bootrom, 4.1 FW, 05.14.02 BB, have jailbroken with limera1n and previously installed 1.1-1 ultrasnow trying to unlock, unsuccessfully.
Do i just follow all the instructions on iclarified from scratch or do i need to uninstall anything first ?
I need to unlock it for use overseas in 2 weeks, is there likely to be an easier way to unluck by then ?
Thanks for any help.
