AT&T data is being very stupid today. First of all, one second I'll have full bars of 3G and suddenly it will switch to EDGE for no reason. I was just doing some speed tests on 3G and the speed was varying way too much. One minute I'd have 1345kbps and then it would drop down to 888kbps and then it would be 138kbps and then 901kbps. It's seriously ticking me off. No wonder EDGE seems fine to me. When I load MacRumors on EDGE, it loads at about the same rate 3G loads it. This sucks a lot. I thought 3G was supposed to be FASTER than EDGE... This is crap.

Also, all of my tests were done with the iPhone sitting in the same spot. Why am I getting such dodgy service today? It's being ridiculous!

Maybe AT&T is doing some work in your area? Maybe upgrading or just basic maintance.

Yeah, you don't want to throw it through the wall.

I get dodgy service where I live on some nights... annoying when I'm in the middle of an online Galcon game and I lose connection... DON'T THEY KNOW WHAT THAT DOES TO MY GALCON RANKING!!!

Oh well...

I'll state the obvious- reboot your phone. Nine times out of ten that will fix any problem. It's almost never an issue on the network's end.

That happened a lot when I lived on Long Island last year, right when the iPhone 3G came out. Most of Long Island didn't have 3G prior to the iPhone release, so the systems were all brand new. They kept tweaking them, and on top of that, every 3G compatible phone was accessing the new network, which overloaded it many times. It would work slower than GPRS half the time. Now I'm up by Rochester and the 3G network is more established here, so the data network is very quick.

I agree. Mainly because no one ever turns off there phone and that can be the problem.

Or like someone else said AT&T is probably working in your area for better service.

I've restarted my iPhone and I've taken the sim card out and put it back in. It's definitely the network. I'm not an idiot... I know the troubleshooting steps to take. It was just making me mad.

Woah calm down. If you know it's the network, then wait a little while and shrug it off rather than threaten to throw your phone through the wall. It might also help if you ask other members or people who live near you if they're having the same problem with AT&T at the moment.

Exactly why I didn't respond. . . Can't stand when people post threads just to vent about something they can't change

Yes indeed, the wall could be limiting your reception :)

But try an easier way of getting your phone to the other side: Walk it, perhaps?

Seriously though, I've noticed a rise in similar complaints recently. My own reception disappeared completely overnight a week ago. I've also heard AT&T are busy 'upgrading'. Might all be related?

Everyone seems to get their pants in a knot when Spaz posts something. And every single thread I have read by Spaz has helped me out a lot. There are 1000's of posts on this form, and finding the post within a thread that has the information you want, (even with the search) can be a pain. Spaz puts it all in the first thread where I need the info. While this might be a little outdated of a post to people who wait on line on iDay, but for the rest of us mortals who can't afford a new phone that often, this is the first opportunity we are getting to actually buy our first iPhone or look at our second. So having this list right at the moment, is perfect.

This is an informative forum, and I think Spaz always puts out good information. Isn't that the point of Macrumors?

Quoted from another thread. Obviously this guy is fairly new; I wonder what he will say now.

Okay, I'll admit... I was venting.

Don't you have anywhere better to vent?
