Really? After all the gaming consoles that have sold for 4 times their worth, your surprised a cool ass phone can fetch a profit?

People will pay big for what they can't get themselves.

really how much are they going on average for both 8gb and 16 gb.

i have a 8gb one and would love the white 16gb onr and if i can sell it at a big enough profit to to mnost of the other contract off i might be able to convince a mate to take out the contract for me.

There were bids of $750 and up (with hours left to bid) on the black 16GB. The white one seems to be getting a bit of a premium over that.

ah right im in the uk so i was mainly after uk auctions , sorry shold of mentioned that

when I read the subject I thought you were talking about the price of the plans offered by the operators...

Some people are making a whole heap of money, that's for sure. There's one going for about £560 at the moment for the 8gb version, so that's a tidy £461 profit assuming it doesn't go up even more. Not a bad idea to upgrade and sell it if you're happy with the first gen :)

LOL

I am amazed too..
I cut this one guy a deal on an 8 gb friday afternoon! $600 cash, but shoot.... There werent any ebay listings yet, so I didnt really know what to charge!

Later that night, I sold 2 white 16 gb... and made $1400 cash off craigslist buyer. He was ecstatic and his main reason to buy the white ones.. Unlock and sell one, and keep one for himself HAHAHHA

OMFG.... i could have made a whole nother grand that day!!!

I'm not that surprised. There are people who are a lot richer than you and I who can afford to spend an absurd amount on a product without the hassle of waiting in line. (or even leaving their home)

If I was filthy rich, I would be doing the same thing for the iPhone 3G. My verizon cell phone died last night so I need to get a new phone ASAP. Can't find a 16 GB black iPhone in any of the local stores.

Not everyone paying these prices are rich. Some are just foolish.

Have these phones even been unlocked yet, i dont think so. I hope they all get bricked on another network.

I sold my 16GB iPhone on eBay the day before the 3G's were officially announced last month and got $705 for it (plus shipping) - the guy was in Belgium and they were previously unavailable there.

EDIT: Opps.. just saw you guys were talking about 3G's.. My bad!

I'm a bit surprised that the grey market is working so well on 3G iPhones.
I thought you had to have a plan (USA/AT&T) tied to the phone under your name or you could not buy one?

I guess if you go and buy a new 16GB iPhone and sign up for the 2 year contract, that would be $299 + $70 (first month) + $35 (activation), right - so thats $404.. Then you go and sell the iPhone on ebay (Without the SIM) for $1000, you've just made nearly $600.. then cancel the plan in the allocated time that you're allowed to and just pay the ETF ($175, or is it $105 since you already paid the first month) - either way - you'd still be making around $400 per phone - and if you do it to a family plan I think you can buy 3 or 4 phones at a time..

I guess if you take the time and effort to do it, its well worth it.

Cancelling the contract also has a detrimental effect on your credit score. Keep that in mind.

No it doesn't. Not paying your ETF could potentially hurt your credit. If you open an account, pay the balance in full, and then close the account...it can't hurt you in the least bit. I guess the only way you're hurt is by having your credit report pulled.
