Lets hope tomorrow or the day after tomorrow everything works ok...but beer because of its composition ...could affect a lot

Thanks folks.

I decided to bite the bullet.

I bought a new machine and let my frustration vent against the previous one.

Oh cool. What will you do to the old one? Will you sell it or get it repaired?

Just gonna smash it to ****ing bits in my garden.
Is that sarcasm?

If no, you must be a lot richer than I am. Given that "for parts" MBPs sell for hundreds of dollars on eBay, smashing one that presumably only needs a new topcase (and at worst still has a perfectly good screen) seems utterly insane to me. Also just a waste of a useful-to-somebody computer.

I thought the thread title was a bit harsh, but now I understand.

Seriously, don’t.
In all likelihood there is nothing wrong with it and it might end up lasting longer than the new one you have just bought.

Hey, if you have not smashed your laptop, don't.

Awesome you can afford another one but here is what you should do with the old one.

Let it dry off in a heater cupboard for a week (don't turn it on). Wait a week.

If you know your way around electronics, you could dismantle and clean internals after the week is up. Look on youtube for videos how to do this. Ifixit may also have some guides. If you don't want to clean internals, skip it and maybe you get lucky and it works anyway.

Now, test if it works. If it does work:

Gift it to someone, explaining that it might fail one day, it might not. They'll be very appreciative.
Consider selling for cheap (someone might pay for it if it works and you explain the issue) - better getting $1k back right?
Keep it as a secondary machine. You never know - this could be a life saver if your new one has another type of accident

I have had electronics that got wet and didn't die (after being dried properly). I also know of plenty who accidentally dropped phones in toilets or in beer jugs at a bar only to dry them out and they kept working for years (some perfect, some with minor faults).

Good luck. Also as someone with young kids like yourself. Take a step back and laugh. Remind your kid when they are 21 and buy their dream laptop (and laugh).

Pretty sure AppleCare+ covers two incidents of accidental damage - including liquid damage - if you pay the fixed repair fee (low relative to the cost of repair out of warranty).

I have checked the AppleCare+ legal documentation and I discovered that is a little different between iPad/iPhone/iPod and computers. For computers in the section 2.2 you find as following:
Services for Accidental Damage from Handling (“ADH Service”)
If during the Plan Term you submit a valid claim notifying Apple that the Covered Device has failed due to accidental damage from handling resulting from an unexpected and unintentional external event (e.g., drops and damages caused by liquid contact from spills) (“ADH”), Apple will, at its discretion and subject to the service fee described below, either (i) repair the defect using new or refurbished parts that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability, or (ii) exchange the Covered Device with a replacement product that is new or equivalent to new in performance and reliability. Each time you receive services for ADH is a “Service Event”.
However in the section 3.1:
Hardware Service and ADH Service
[...]
(b) to protect against excessive or catastrophic physical damage to Covered Equipment (e.g., products that have been crushed or bent) or excessive or catastrophic damage to Covered Equipment caused by liquid contact (e.g., products that have been partially or wholly submerged in liquid)".
So it seems to depend from the severity of the damage. By the way for iPad/iPhone/iPod I haven't found under the section 3.1 any limitation about damage caused by liquid. As you pointed, you have just to pay a fixed service fees.
