My last iPhone was a GSM unlocked iPhone 5 on T-Mobile back in Early 2013. I switched to a Nexus 4 and then got a Note 2 and then a OnePlus One. I'm glad I skipped the 5S. In general, I'm on the iPhone "tic" cycle.
Here's my TL
R two pennies on the iPhone 5 > Android jump:
iOS 6 was way more monumental than iOS 7 to me. Having a jailbreak helped a lot.
Android 4.4 for me was a lot more functional and worth the shift back. Plus it had such large improvements over 4.0 and 4.1/4.2 that I definitely liked making the jump back to Android late 2013.
I definitely enjoyed selling my iPhone 5 for almost 100% of what I paid. iOS devices definitely carry their weight in resale value.
Why I quit Android/OnePlus:
T-Mobile trade in + selling my OnePlus made the iPhone 6 very cheap.
iOS 8 > Android 4.4 + 4.5
iOS Maps today > Google Maps on Android
1GB of ram hasn't been as detrimental as I thought
iPhone at 4.7" is pretty damned good size wise and it's fast. Very fast.
iOS apps are still better than their Android cousins.
The Note 4, Nexus 6, OnePlus One and others are super underwhelming to me.
The 5S was a "refresh" to me, but the 6 is an actual step forward.
I have more time to play mobile games and iOS games > Android games.
What I like about the iPhone 6:
Dat camera, though.
Can still one hand it despite being 4.7".
Screen quality, Jack of all color and brightness trades.
Keyboard is still #1 vs other devices.
It's light despite the size jump.
Phone call quality! God the OnePlus was just awful. It's still supposed to be a PHONE!
What I don't like:
6 should have OIS but I haven't noticed it in pictures I take.
Google Now > Siri still. I think this won't last though.
Very hard to find a good case. When the 5 was out it took me like 10 minutes to find a good case. Now the #1 case on the 6 is a Speck CandyShell? That case SUCKS. I feel like cases have devolved. This is the same with Android. The last cell phone case I got was a Nexus 4 case because even with the Note 2 I had trouble finding a good case. So this isn't iPhone 6 specific. Seriously, you guys might argue that cases now are good. They're not. Any veteran here will tell you the cases now are gross, stupidly designed, not worth the money and nowhere near as good as cases were back in 2011-2012.
Overall. I'm glad to be back. But next year I'll probably jump back to Android. That's just what I do. I'm not blindly loyal to any company and by being blindly loyal, you're making the mistake of having inferior devices just to stick to your falsely valued loyalties. Apple has no idea what your name is, so thinking you're "loyal" for not trying Android devices is just ignorant. I'm glad I'm not that way but hey, this phone is pretty badass!
