I'm just trying to make sure I'm not missing anything important, in my decision making process..............

Processor - same "tier" processor, with close speed and the same 6mb L2 cache

RAM - officially supported to 8 gigs vs. unofficially handling 8 gigs

Display - a 60% increase in the newer model, however its measured

Hard Drives - 180 more gigs in the newer model

Graphics - same with up to 512mb in the 9600

Slots - 2 USB and SD slot vs. 3 USB and ExpressCard

Battery - Longer life built in vs. shorter life but can be accessed easily, along with the hard drive.

The refurb 2.93 is $350 less then the new 2.8. I'm just wondering what I got wrong, and what I'm missing.

Thanks for your input.

Both 15" have 2 USB ports.

With regard to the new MBP.

Pros: has better screen, longer battery life, sd card reader.
Cons: lost expresscard slot, 0.13Ghz slower, 1.5Gbps SATA issue.

I think all the differences are small potatoes for most people. The one big difference is in battery life. Everything else is likely minutia. That's what would be the deciding point for me.

Just one small correction, the 2.93 15" you're looking at (which is the same thing I'm using right now) has just 2 USB ports, not 3.

Other than that, I think you have it right.

Don't also forget about the removable battery, I believe that's a good feature to lose.

Personally I'd go with the prior 2.93 since it gives you more bang for your buck imo. Others can disagree but I think the expresscard slot, faster processor and removable battery make it a no brainer to buy the 2.93.
