Bless

Well, I don't have an Apple account, so it puts it in the cart, but it doesn't matter, I would laugh if I had an account and they called.

God what a system. If I was spending that much money on a computer (about 18x as much as my ibook) I would definitely get a couple more 30 inchers

Yeah, my own in-home Pixar which would only be used for folding, emailing, Adium, and MR has 4 30" screens.

n00b. ;)

It was the Ram that was 70 percent of the cost. Actually that is an estimate. But I am sure it is high. Apple's rams is so overpriced.

screw the computer, by 5 used cars and open your own used car lot.

The reason I was looking at the machine, is because I was looking at PowerMacs (trying to get this lady I know to get a PowerMac and give me her Powerbook.. not that I will ever convince her) and so I was looking at the PowerMacs, and I wanted to know what the most expensive would be. Though obviously that kind of system isn't needed today, one of these days that will be what everyone has.

I don't know to horribly much about folding but I believe with that machine you could be in the top hundred in no time.

Mmm, I'm currently in the 900s...
sweet!

I just need a $32k or so, and I'm set!

I configured a system similar to that one. Its shocking that it can get that expensive!

It will cost more than the previous version(s) of the PMG5 as it is not a desktop its a workstation. ;) :)

If you require more than 2 monitors, HD, a workstation graphics card, etc... then chances are pretty good that you are inching on workstation ground(s). :)

What is the difference? Where's the dividing line?

Is a workstation the highest specced Mac you can get your hands on at the time? In that case, my dual 1.42 G4 would once have been called a workstation.

I do work on dual 2.5G at the office, does that make it a workstation?

Seems pretty arbitrary to me...

I don't know what that makes your computer, but I know it makes you damned lucky.

And yes, I totally agree that it seems arbitrary. I can buy a cat and call it a dog. I can walk it like a dog, feed it dog food, or even play fetch with it, but no matter what I call it, it's still a dog. Anyone following me?

So glad it qualifies for free shipping... that extra 50 bucks would put it out of my price range.
Honestly, does anyone think that it's the biggest rip-off since the 400 dollar Wal-Mart laptop? Alienware Crap-Ware PALES next to this.

Justifying such an astronomical price is a challenge. Anybody shelling out that kind of $ should clearly set aside a separate fund for visits to the mental health clinic.
