im getting this pop up on my Mac asking to terminate the ransomware

You are running the security program RansomWhere?. See https://objective-see.com/products/ransomwhere.html for a description including how it attempts to detect potential ransomware. The author, Patrick Wardle, is a well respected security researcher.

I assume that what looks like an Adobe updater is legitimate and so click 'Allow'. But if you don't use Acrobat, you should investigate further.

I have tried RansomWhere? but it found far too many false positives and I have it disabled at present.
