what happened to backgrounds on the homescreen? or stacks, or a new layout?

lame.

Voice dialing still not being available is ridiculous.

And there can't possibly be any technical reason the 2G iPhone can't support MMS. Pretty much any dinky little phone on a standard Verizon plan can support freaking MMS.

I'm extremely impressed they are including so many features in this next update, its more or less everything people wanted minus new visuals and tethering

"it doesnt have a new look so it sucks"

Thats the point of this thread i guess.

Lame.

i exepcted something drastic. atleast one cool thing

I'm pretty sure its because AT&T want to get people off the 2G network and onto the more robust 3g (where they also get more money).

BORING, almost everything that can be done NOW with a Jailbreak,
However they did open up more hush hush stuff they have been holding back, like passing data via dock connector, cant wait for automotive TUNING APPS!

Also peer to peer is cool, gee finally, the nintendo DS and other kiddie hard ware has had this for how many years? lol...

Apple is still holding alot back to try and keep the phone "Fresh" and its pure faggotry.

im sure there will be many small features that us users will discover when we get our hands on it...just like we do in almost all updates.....im still very impressed

I agree... they're not going to announce "We've built in new SMS sounds!"... they had bigger things to talk about today.

This was asked at a Q/A session after the presentation:
Q: Is there a physical hardware problem on the first-gen iPhone that prevents it from doing MMS.
A: It’s a different radio, so it is a physical issue.

before you complain, let's figure out what exactly is in here. They threw in some pretty major stuff (note syncing, stereo bluetooth, and more) in one 15 second slide. So there was obviously more here than they could cover in one demo. Let's let all the details come out.
