Saw the new M1X MacBook Pro for the first time in the wild yesterday. Honestly shocked at how thick it is. Looks like a bad step back to the fat PowerBook G4 days. I understand pros like ports, but the new MBP is a brick because of it. I'll keep my 16-inch Intel MBP until it can't run anymore – the slimness is so nice next to the beefy new one.

That being said, the only reason I buy a 16-inch MBP is for the screen size. I don't need all the bells and whistles. I hope to god now that the 16-inch MBP is a heffer Apple introduces a large-screen MacBook Air (15-inch or larger).

Regardless of what Apple does someone will complain about it. There were so many people complaining because they kept trying to make the MacBook Pro thinner and lighter at the cost of performance. Now that a certain person has left Apple things are going the opposite direction. Of course other people are going to complain because they wanted thinner and lighter.

I agree Apple needs to make a non pro MacBook. The pro level machines have pro level power so they cannot be thin and light. I think a 14” MacBook Air is in the cards. When the redesign happens I don’t see them keeping those bezels so either it’s going to go 14” or it’s going to be smaller and 13” but I don’t think they’ll go that way. I really don’t see a non pro 15” or 16” MacBook coming out though

If I had a dollar for every "15" MBA needed!" thread that exists on MR, I could afford a loaded 16" MBP with money left over ;) I waited a long time for a non-pro 15/16" Apple laptop to appear, but realizing it will probably never happen, I finally gave up and bought a base model Dell XPS 9510 to have the screen real estate I needed at a reasonable price.

It is true though — Apple really needs a large screen MacBook Air. So many people are lured to the MacBook vs. getting a PC laptop. I get asked about it regularly by friends who aren't as into tech but are planning to upgrade. They hear good things about the Mac & then ask if they can get a MacBook with a screen larger than 13 inches. You tell them, yes, the next screen size up starts at $2,499 and they're like, "WHAT?!" ?

I would welcome the a bezel less 14" display in the same size body we have today, but I wouldn't want a larger/heavier device.

I came from the 2019 16” to the new one and honestly I can’t tell any real discernible difference between the two as far as weight and size are concerned. What is noticable is how kick ass the new pros are compared to the last generation. It’s by far the best Mac I’ve owned and I’ve been running Mac since 2010. It’s a beast and I love it. JMO.

Apple associates larger screen as "Pro" and thus demands more money. MacBook, iPad, iPhone, all follows this upselling strategy. It is annoying for sure.

I took out my MacBook air 2010 outside to check a neighbors iPad in their back yard
and they were marveled how thin the laptop is!
which was thicker than the iPad.
the pros back then where thicker for the performance, wonder how they stack up now?

Can't choose what i want after MacBook Air 2012 which is still super for all my tasks.

1) New MacBook Air 2020 M1 // ideal, but no old ports
2) Used MacBook Pro 16" 2019 // ideal design, but maybe ok TouchBar, no old ports
3) Used MacBook 12" 2017 i7/16 // ideal design, no old ports and don't know how comfortable will be everyday work (with external monitor too), because smaller screen and butterfly keyboard
4) New MacBook Pro 16" 2021 // fresh cool, but expensive, ugly design, ugly notch, how apple can produce that?(

If 2022 MacBook Air will have notch and white bezels, that will be very bad.

Maybe new MacBook Air 2020 M1 will be ideal... And it will have 2 years warranty in my country.

The notch is so overblown it’s comical. I’ve had the new 16” pro for about a month and I never notice it. In pretty much every use case the notch is hidden and when it’s not, it’s not noticeable. Do yourself a favor and buy the new pro. If you don’t like it you have 2 weeks to return.

Yes, but what would people do here if they could not criticize something -- anything? It would get pretty boring fast.

I wish they would keep the wedge shape and without fan. I’ll stay on the M1 Air probably indefinitely based on current trends. Oh, and please allow for a new M1 Air to have more higher SSD levels.
