Yahoo push is atrocious and don't want an @me.com account (sounds weird)

When will gmail be push?

IIRC the next feb30th is in 2200...thats a whole lot of iphones shipped by then, steve should be back by then...

Yeah, Yahoo push isn't terribly reliable on wifi. I've noticed some problems too which I think has to do with how they've implemented it.

You can always look for a hosted Exchange service. I can't see Apple letting Gmail be push on the iPhone as that would basically do away with any reason to get MobileMe for some people (including me).

Google may implement some sort of Google Mail application on the iPhone that uses push notifications, but I still don't know that they would want to push it that far. I guess we'll see. :D

They did make a Gmail-specific app for the Blackberry for whatever reason, so who knows.

apple can't really block gmail push. gmail currently uses exchange to push contacts and calendar to the iphone, and it is suspected this is a test to see if they want to do push over exchange

therefore if google simply turns on push email via exchange, any iphone will be able to receive push email, whether apple wants it to or not.
