When I first bought my macbook pro (2010 13") over a year ago the hard drive failed within two weeks.
I didn't feel like sending it back to apple and there's no stores close to me so I just replaced it with a hitachi travelstar 5400rpm HDD.

Two months later - FAIL.
I replace it again with a WD 500GB HDD - this time it lasts about 5 months, then it fails.

So I just can't deal with it anymore, I'm done with mechanical drives in my laptops.
it's not like I'm not careful with it, I always put it to sleep and wait until the sleep indicator light comes on before I move it.

So I stuck in a OCZ 240GB solid state drive - it's great.

Never going back to traditional HDD's again, it's amazing computers are still being made with them.

WD has been going downhill recently, but just because you have had bad luck with traditionals does not mean that your assumption of hard drives is correct.

My perfect setup is an SSD for boot and a large 750GB HDD for storage.
